John Atasie has been an active member of the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) - Houston Chapter since 2017, he recently served as the ISM World board liaison officer primarily responsible for continuously strengthening relationships with key stakeholders at ISM World and other ISM chapters in the interest of ISM-Houston.
John has served consistently in different capacities as a board member, beginning with his role in 2017 as the Vice Chair for the Emerging Professional Group (EPG) where he assisted the committee in providing professional growth and networking opportunities including mentorships for EPG members within the first ten years of their careers.
In 2018, following his leadership on the EPG, John led the professional meetings & membership committee for two program years, managing the monthly development meetings and pre-dinner sessions, which comprised coordinating the programs, presentations, resource requirements, and featured guest speakers.
He was later elected Local Director and Executive Board Member in 2020 and served for two program years overseeing various special committees to plan the annual supplier expo and the chapter’s annual golf tournament, both major fundraisers, and signature events for ISM-Houston. In addition, John managed and supported the EPG committee for career development and coaching, sponsorship, mentorship programs, and networking opportunities with supply management industry leaders. He also supervised the academic partnerships committee for student engagement, talent development, and mentorship programs.
John is a global supply management professional with an operator (Apache Corporation) in the energy industry, with adeptness in procurement, contracting, strategic sourcing, category & spend management, supplier onboarding & supplier relationship management, etc. In addition, he possesses previous work experience in life insurance underwriting, claims management, new product development, risk analysis, banking operations, property development, and criminal justice systems.
He holds an MBA with a concentration in supply chain management from the University of Houston-Downtown and a bachelor’s degree in insurance/actuarial science from Nigeria.
John and his lovely wife are happily married and blessed with three adorable kids. He enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.
